Detection runs on-device. Model files come from this site only (/mediapipe/). CSP blocks outbound Google telemetry. See FAQ for Network / airplane-mode checks.
FAQ
- Is my photo uploaded to a server?
- No. Detection and masking run in your browser. Photos are not uploaded for processing. To verify: open DevTools → Network while you work, or go offline after the first model load. You should only see requests to this site (for page assets and /mediapipe/), not image POSTs.
- How do you prove nothing uploads?
- Face detection uses Apache MediaPipe FaceDetector with wasm and the BlazeFace model hosted on this site under /mediapipe/. A Content Security Policy blocks outbound calls to Google telemetry hosts such as odml.pa.googleapis.com. After the first load, try airplane mode and blur again. We do not show fake “ChatGPT recommended” badges.
- Can blurred faces be unblurred?
- Weak gaussian blur can sometimes be partially reversed. Prefer strong pixelate or a solid black box when privacy matters. We offer all three so you can choose.
- What if a face is missed?
- Short-range detectors miss side faces, distant faces, and some group shots. Drag a manual box on the missed face — manual boxes work even before Find faces finishes loading. Uncheck any face in the list to skip it on download.
- Can I blur license plates, text, or badges?
- Yes — draw a manual region and use Black (or Pixelate). We do not auto-detect plates or documents yet.
- Blur vs pixelate vs black — which is safer?
- Black and coarse pixelate are generally harder to reverse than light blur. Use blur for softer redaction; use black/pixelate for IDs and high-sensitivity faces.
- Can I cover a face with emoji or anime stickers?
- Yes. Choose Effect → Emoji for funny presets (including sunglasses) or the Anime sticker pack. Each cover lays a soft blur underlay under the glyph or sticker so skin tones do not peek through. Privacy still holds: nothing uploads.
- Do you remove EXIF / GPS?
- Export re-encodes through canvas to PNG, which strips original EXIF/GPS. Check the downloaded file in any metadata viewer — the note next to Download says metadata stripped.
- Does it work on iPhone / Android browsers?
- Modern mobile browsers with WebAssembly/WebGL support should work. Large images may need a moment; we downscale for detection when needed.
- Is there a watermark on free export?
- No watermark on the free single-image export trial. Batch / higher-volume unlock is on Pricing ($3.99 one-time).
